Black Decker Router 7614 - Need Help

Featured Replies

1 1/2 HP Black Decker Router Cat No. 7614 Type 1, 25000 RPM, 9.0 AMPS, 120 volts

I found the router in my dad's toolbox. I test and it run good but I am trying to figure how to change bits. It comes with little wrench but seems its for something else. Do you know what size or kind wrench I need to loose and remove bit so I can test with other bits.

I looked Google for manual but can't find anything for this kind tool. Maybe there's video how to do it? Sorry, I am still learning....smile!

See pics attached.

Please advise.

Grant, you can use any wrench that fits. It might have a shaft lock which is a small metal piece that locks into the collet area. You then only need 1 wrench to release the nut. If it does not have a shaft lock, you will need 2 wrenches. 1 to fit the collet nut and 1 to fit the shaft. I have used mechanic's wrench and adjustable wrenches, any port in a storm.

Bob, Thank you!! What about bits size? I've seen some at store, is router bits fit all kind of router including mine?

Looks like a 1/4 inch router bit.

Take the bit out and measure the shaft.

That metal piece going across (3rd pic.) locks 1 nut and the wrench turns the big one.

I agree it looks like 1/4 inch.

If it is like mine, it takes a 15/16ths open end wrench.    There should have been a thin (almost useless wrench that slides into the base of the router.  yep. router bits with a 1/4" shaft.

I have this exact same router. It uses 1/4" shank bits, the shaft lock is shown in the 3rd pic and you push the lever into the shaft while turning the wrench. Steven is correct it's a 15/16" wrench. I think I have the manual, I'll look and if I have it I can scan it and e-mail it to you. I should be able to send it in a couple of days.

Grant I found the manual and I'll scan it tonight at work and can probably send it to you shortly after, just send me an e-mail address.

Guys, I went to Home Depot and Lowe's and they both do not have that 15/16" thin wrench. I guess I will have to call Black & Decker and see if they sell it? Unless you know any specialty store that sell it? (rockler or woodcraft?)

John, I would love to have manual -- appreciated it! Send it to grantlairdjr@gmail.com

Try Sears, look in the auto tool section.

Hey Grant, how quick do youi need it?  I think I have 3 or 4 of them if you can wait.  No charge just let me know if you want it.  Every time I buy a router I get one and I have like 6 routers.

Do.  I'll look tomorrow and drop it in the mail.

Grant you should now have the manual in your e-mail. I sent it as a PDF file.
