And that's the use of our Chat Room.

John1 has provided us with a pretty valuable informational exchange method which allows us to instantly provide comments and ideas.

When you log on, you will see "The American Woodworker Chat | "x" Online."  Make it a habit to visit the "Room" when you sign on where you can take part in any kind of conversation that may help someone.  An example:

Ron and I visited the Chat Room earlier this evening and talked about his desire to find plans for a Curio Cabinet to match an Entertainment Center he has.  And ya know what?  I think we found a solution.

Try it, and don't be bashful about giving someone your very helpful opines..

Larry, your a peach! Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. Yes folks, the chat is a great tool to talk and discuss woodworking, home improvement and advise, troubleshooting, and ideas, and you can even partake in a back-n-forth about how to change brakes on your Chevy PU or VW Beetle! Thanks again Larry for bringing this very invaluable tool up here and now.

I agree, in fact when you and Ron were talking about plans for the entertainment center I was in and out of chat. I was looking at posts and looking in my files foor such a plan at the same time. But you are 100% right on using this as a great tool. I have gone in on several nights and said hello with no response ans other nights I have had full conversations.

Thanks for bring light to this, another way for me to think about the chat room.

and I benefited from the whole thing.   41.gif

I think we need a flashing box when there's a conversation going on or a member posts on the chat line to let you know someones there.

Mike, turn up your speaker volume and when a chat is posted, you'll get the ping. Right now we don't have a better notification, I have been looking at other chat programs, and I have worked them on our test network, I am investigating a better chat, but for now, you'll have to turn your speakers up!

Thanks guys

When you access the Chat Room, there's an icon with a speaker.  When you click on it, a vertical bar appears and you can click on it to adjust the volume level.

Every time I click on it. t's half way up.  Can you set the default to "high?"

I am not so sure about the PEACH part, maybe a peach PIT.

Just teasing you Larry.

Be nice, Leo..

I still have your quarters..

Hi Larry, the default volume is set to middle because different computer speakers react differently to our settings. If I set it high, then when someone makes a post in chat, and the user of our forum is not expecting this, they could get pinged out of their chair. Imagine just sitting there perusing our site, and all the sudden, PING!!!!, you fly out of your chair because you got blasted by a chat post. Now with my sense of humor, that image is pretty funny, but folks might not like it. I hope this explains the reason for that middle of the road setting.

I try to look to see who is in chat when I log on. It's not too bad leaving that window open and watching while surfing the site and replying to posts etc. Maybe something in the mean time those wishing to get involved might try this while John is trying to get other things worked out. Just my 2 cents.
