Friday, May 6th, What's on you woodworking agenda this weekend?

Featured Replies

Okay gang, it is Friday, What is on the woodworking agenda for the weekend?

I have a pretty long list and not sure what I will get to Saturday but here are a few things I hope to work on.

Tonight, First Friday Arts and Craft show in downtown Florence, Alabama. I have a booth and will be setup this afternoon around 4:00 pm and last until about 8:30 pm.

Got a section of Hackberry from a downed tree I hope to get a couple of bowls out of.

Put stain on the oak table

Cut out some cabinets.

That may be more than I get to this weekend. Also got to mow the lawn and cleanup around the house.

How about you, what's on your agenda!

I got my new tool rest, my 60 deg dead center and a bunch of pen kits so I'll be turning for the first day then for the remaining 4 days I'll be building a cabinet for the wife for the laundry room....shhh dont tell the wife....that I'm off for 5 days!

Mums the word Mr Dillen.

As for me, the only woodworking is finishing off a couple of flag case.  Grandson baseball on Saturday and pampering Mama on Mother's Day.

Well...lets see...need to find room to store that wood I purchased from Bob Kloes. One of the woodworking stores  e-mailed a coupon, so I was going to purchase some more Transtint dye. Either, sand my lowboy or yard work. Probably the yardwork and Sunday is Mothers Day, (don't know about you guys, but Mothers day at our house, last all weekend! ) So probably not a whole hockey sticks of a lot in the shop!

I spent the day today milling all of the lumber for a gredenza today. Tomorrow I'll get the panels glued up. I don't think I'll even attempt to go into the shop on Sunday.

Mill-up some extra long fascia timbers , finish an island top , make some more wall paneling for the Rainbow Oaks Store , and narrow down my shop doors design . Signed another house today YAHOO !!! Sunday is mothers day - and I had better pay attention to the various mothers in my life too! Hope everyone has a good weekend ----

Working on our site John! Some cool stuff coming up for us, and working on The Wounded Warrior Fundraiser Project coming up as well. Then I might get in the shop and try to finish the coin display rack for our soldier SFC Lara from The Wounded Warriors. Tomorrow I need to ship out the Coin Displays to Walter Reed Medical Center for our troops, and then Sunday, you got it, pamper the heck out of my love.

I am hoping to sand down a Train Display case and get it pretreated for a water stain and hopefully get the carcase assembled. Then I can make the doors for the front of it. I want to get started on a keepsake chest for the July auction and try to get to the post office to get these coin displays off to John. The Mrs. want to go out roaming in the truck and get flowers to plant in the beds. Time permitting I want to finish taking and old computer desk apart in my gameroom and start on building a work bench in it's place.

Wow, Bob that is so awesome. Is this something you designed? I love that tiger maple. What are the dimensions?

Looking good Bob.. your customer will be very pleased.

I have often wondered...just curious, any of you...what determines, on a piece like this (single door) to be hinged either on the left or right? Is that something discussed with the customer?

Bob, whose rat-tails did ya use?

I think it has to do with being right handed. Most people would reach for the knob with their right hand.

Just my thought though.

Nice job. Very impressive indeed. Wha a great hoice of wood, character and craftsmanship.

Hats oof to you.

Thank you guys. Its about 41" tall and fits in a 19" corner. I have done a number of these in all kinds of styles and layouts. If you give me a depth of the corner , that is where it all starts. I have done seeded glass, raised and /or flat panels, no door, etc. I have done them with a solid back also. I like the slipped back better, but that is me. The rat tail hinges are from Fisher Forge.

Very nice guy who makes some great hardware. The knobs are just simple wood knobs. So is the turnbutton. I want to do a few more out of some other woods.

Very nice Bob.  How many hours in those?

Hi Ron. It all depends on if I need to make new templates for the corner or not. If I use something that I have, it takes about a week or so. It also depends on the finish. If I have to create new templates, it adds about a day. Figure 60 hours total. I work on other things while doing a piece. I rarely work on one piece at a time. I built 2 of these at once. A few changes from one to the other, but nothing major.

So it looks like a lot of you were really busy this weekend. Thanks for sharing your projects and updates. Some great projects going on.

Keep up the great woodworking. We'll start a new report next week.

Thanks for checking in John, I love this weekly check in. What a wonderful tradition you have started right here on The Patriot Woodworker! I have been on many forums and have not see this cool weekly check in anywhere else!
