Found this Delta 37-220 joiner on craigslist Sunday.  It had been for sale for a week, and I took a flyer on it.  Not bad for a C-note.

It has both pork chop guards, a 1 HP motor and a decent sheet metal stand.

Nice decals:

And sitting next to it's younger brother.  Best I can tell, it's a 1964 vintage.

I'm just going to clean it up, knock off the flash rust, sharpen the blades and use it.

Thanks for posting Will. Nice machine and it will clean up well, I am sure. You're right about the great deal. bob

Nice find Will. Isn't it funny how those things will just find their way to your house. Grin.gif

Give us an update when you get it all cleaned up and ready.

Very nice score Will, and at a great price! Those are great jointers.

You better get that thing spayed before you have a garage full of then.  Nice find.

Thanks guys. Now I have a decision to make on which one to keep. William I agree, but a garage full of old "arn" is a nice thing isn't it!

I love the looks of those Will, they look nice and straight and fully restorative if that's your intentions. Very cool indeed.

Let me ask the old machinery guys this, do you approach the restoration of the body of these machines like you would in automotive body work? Bondo, sheet metal patches?

John,

I'm probably in a minority, but in a condition like this all I'm going to do is clean, degrease and run.  I do check out the bearings and on this unit checked the tables for level.  If I were going to repaint, I would fill the holes in the base, sand and go on.  I do want to replace the starter with an original style, and find the missing handwheel to make it complete.

I stand in awe of Shane's ability to restore machinery though.  Someday I may be that talented!

Will

John, I can only tell you some guys take the restoration the full 9 yards and some, like me, just get it working. I am in awe of Shane's talent as well. Just like old car guys, there are some who just have the talent to do it. bob
