May 13, 201115 yr My Hitachi jig saw finally died today as all the smoke came out of it. I have found that keeping the smoke inside the tool is very important as I cannot buy new smoke and refill it. I have been making a number of children's rocking chairs using 1/2" baltic birch and was on the last 2 cut out pieces on my 3rd 5' x 5' sheet. I should have stopped after the 2nd sheet but I wanted to get things all done tonight. Oh well, my old Hitachi Jig Saw was a real trooper for the past 12 years with a lot of use. So now I am in need of getting a new jig saw. Over the years the Bosch has been top dog from everything I have seen and read, so I am looking hard at the new Bosch JS470E which is the replacement for the older 1590 EVSK which has been a workhorse over the years. But before I buy one I wanted to see if there are any other good options out there as I have not kept up on the different brands. I will be using this tool pretty hard as I will be cutting up a lot of of plywood with it. I am in need of one pretty quickly (I need it by the end of next week) and I will be buying through Amazon as opposed to locally as I can get it from Amazon with no sales tax and free shipping. Thanks for your help.Â
May 13, 201115 yr Allen, I can only comment on what I have, and I have the Bosch as well, it's a great saw. Smooth, quite as far as jig saws go. the forward tilt blade mechanism is pretty cool for soft and hardwoods. I would highly recommend the saw your looking at.And on top of that, if you go through our Amazon Store and make your purchase, you'll be contributing to our site and WWP. You will get the same great price with free shipping. The Patriot Woodworker Amazon StoreGood luck with whatever you do Allen. The Bosch is a great saw.John

May 13, 201115 yr This months issue of woodworkers journal reviewed jigsaws. Bosch came out on top. Here is a link to the video review.
May 13, 201115 yr Author Greg,Thanks for that link and it was just what I needed to sort things through. I went ahead on ordered the Bosch 1590EVSL so it should be here by the end of the coming week. John, Thanks for letting me know about the site's "Amazon Store" and I orded the jig saw through the link. I will have to remember that as I order various things through Amazon and am happy to give this site credit.John Morris said:Allen, I can only comment on what I have, and I have the Bosch as well, it's a great saw. May 14, 201115 yr AllenI don't have a Bosch. Maybe when thisone dies I will but for now. I have a Dewalt. I have cut it with a circular saw (case) and it is now about 8 years olds. Still runs like the day I bought it. Has some nice features and a great feel. Control is not an issue. One thing have learned over the years is the blade makes a huge difference. Yes I buy Bosch blades and I love them.I would have no problem recomending this saw to anyone. It gets hard use and keeps asking for more, the weight is great and comfort is great as well. Price wise it is comparable to the Bosch. I know I sound like the outsider but this is one tool that has proven itself time and time again. Just my opinion.WayneÂ
