May 14, 201115 yr Made this little makeup bench for my daughter as a Christmas gift. I downsized it from the original plan in Wood magazine. Started with reclaimed oak lumber I got from various auctions.  The majority of it came from old headboards and frames.   Cut out all the parts, glued up four legs and laid out the biscuit joints. This was the hardest part. I've put together face frames using my old Porter Cable, but it's all one setting. This required multiple setups and my old biscuit joiner isn't as easy to setup as newer models. Next time I'll do mortise and tenon and skip the headaches.Glue up Two coats of golden oak, and three coats of polyurethane later it's ready for daughter to pick out fabric for the seat.  After my first attempt at upholstery and in place in daughters room.  The knots and old nail holes really gave it character, and my daughter was thrilled with the result.  Will
May 14, 201115 yr Will, You really did a great job working up a bunch of reclaimed oak in to a beautiful piece of furniture that your daughter will probably want to take with her when the time comes.  Man I really enjoyed seeing you guys at the OWAMMO's Gathering and as an idea I believe we will have a demonstration at the OWAMMO's Gathering in October on just the subject of utilizing reclaimed wood, metal, and other objects to build or modify into re-purposed items such as furniture, etc.  Thanks ~ DanÂ
May 14, 201115 yr Will, that turned out superb, I love seeing reclaimed lumber used in this fashion. Your design is awesome and the whole piece just look unreal. I would be very proud of this one. Great job
