Pictures of the garage I built.

Featured Replies

Hi,

It's been awhile since I first posted the picture of the somewhat finished garage. It had a roof on it anyway. I just uploaded some more pictures of the building process.

Hope ya don't mind Bob, I posted your Garage shots in your discussion for all to see.

Looking good man!!! What a wonderful design and plenty of room. I love the surroundings, beautiful country. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Bob, nice looking garage and home stead. I didn't know you owned a mill too! Now I see where you get all your material from. Is that you son in one of the photos?  Is the upstairs in the garage for anything special?

Hello Bob,

Great looking piece piece of work and a sturdy garage that will last for years to come. By looking at the saw set up I am thinking that you built the garage with green lumber as we used to do back in the 1940s and let the wood season in place with very little seperations of any joints.

Wow, Bob that is a great looking garage and I love the surroundings.

Good Morning Everyone,

No Problem John, glad you moved them. I thought everyone could see them where I put them!!

Thanks for all the replies! It was a lot of fun, brings back a lot of good memories. Yes Ralph, I did build green, the wood was down around 3 months before I started building. And it did dry and shrink up nice and tight!!

This was another life for me bob. Shortly after the garage was done, my wife and I divorced. She got half the ranch and we sold the other half to pay off our debt, which wasn't a whole lot, so it left me enough to start over again. I'm living in town now and have to buy all my lumber. Imagine that!! Nope not my son, though it seemed like it sometimes. He's my nephew. He would come and stay the summers with me and help out on the ranch. Besides working full time at a regular job, I had a full time job at the ranch. We raised Santa Gertrudis cattle. At any given time I had around 20 cows and a bull. Now that kept me going!! Believe it or not, I told the county that it the upstairs of the garage was a hay loft for the ranch. It was actually an apartment with full bath!! I hope no one from the county is on the forum!! Oh well I guess I don't need to worry about that now!! I have all that wood planed down I got from you bob. Nice looking stuff. Hopefully I'll get to start putting it all together soon! Thanks,

Bob

Good to hear from you again Bob. Glad you liked the wood. Sorry to hear about the ranch, but life happens. Never heard of that breed of cattle, I will have to check them out. Lord knows we have all kinds in Wisconsin. I bet that is one great hayloft! bob

The Santa Gertrudis was developed on the King Ranch in South Texas. I was recognized as a distinctive breed in I believe it was 1940. Somewhere around there anyway. And it is the only true american breed of cattle. It's a cross between Shorthorn and Brahma. Nice animals!!

Bob

Thats a great looking garage neighbor!

Hey bob, Sorry it's not woodworking, but......

I found a couple of pictures of the cattle. One is the herd bull, the other was his replacement!
