June 7, 201115 yr comment_44900 Ok, I thought I was finished with the display case, but I need a latch. So I am thinking. Can I drill out a hole in the face of the case the same diameter as a rare earth,, embed it in the face slightly below the surface, then plug the hole, then mount another rare earth the same way in the door and will it magnetize through the wood? My idea is an invisible magnetic catch system. Two polar opposite magnets embeded in the wood and concealed.Whatdayall think? Report
June 7, 201115 yr comment_44903 You can do that. Just make sure you use magnets small enough so you don't need a crow bar to open the door. I use the ones from Lee Valley with the special washer to attach together. Works slick with a forstner bit to drill a flat hole for each.http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=60007&cat=1,42363,42348&ap=1http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=32066&cat=1,42363,42348&ap=1Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com Report
June 7, 201115 yr comment_44902 I did that when I built my splayed stile Black Wanut China Cabinet. I made one of the magnets "adjustable" by using a magnet that had a hole in it. Then use a screw to adjust it. I used Forstner bits for the "wholes."You will know when it's properly adjusted when the magnet system draws to door closed when it's almost touching.Larry Report
