New Bathroom Vanity- PIP

Featured Replies

I am finally getting to make a new vanity for our downstairs 1/2 bath. I have had the wood for awhile, but other things kept getting in the way. So yesterday I got the layout done and the parts cut for the frame and today I got it all put together. Tomorrow I will be making the shelves and hopefully start on the doors.

The design comes from an Arts & Crafts style vanity that my wife liked from a number of ones I found online. I had to change things up a bit to make it fit right in our bathroom. I had to deal specifically with how our drain comes out of the wall as it is much easier for me to tweak the vanity as opposed to opening up the wall to relocate the drain line. The vanity will be made with red oak and the top is still to be determined as we will be putting in a copper vessle sink (a bowl that sits on top of the counter top). We would like to go granite or similar, but I may end up making it out of wood with a good finish as this bath doesn't get heavy use.

Here is the one we found online:

Here is the completed frame. I will not be doing the through tenon like the model as I will be putting on some exterior butterfly type hinges in a oiled bronze finish. I will be going out tomorrow to look at hinges and hardware. I will not be doing a solid shelf but making it with slats. The dimensions are 30"W x 20"D x 32"H (without counter top) which will fit nicely in the bathroom as it will be smaller than the "Builder Standard Garbage" vanity that came with the house.

Since I get a lot of flack for my garage being too clean, I didn't clean up the sawdust before I took the photo. Tongue.gif

Once I get done with the rest of the bath (patch, texture, paint, molding) and get this vanity installd, I will be making a wall mirror and a new medicine cabinet and mirror to match with the vanity.

Where is the sawdust????? It looks great Allen!!! Very clean and professional looking. Now, I am going to say, I love the idea of a wood counter top. They are becoming more and more popular, and they look great. Very nice indeed sir, job well done, well done indeed!113.gif

Nice design Allen. I bet it turns out well. Looking forward to seeing more pictures. I saw the sawdust. You need to have a lot more though. Grin.gif

Love the design you have chosen. That should look great in the bathroom.

I need to get a picture of my shop floor. I can show you some sawdust now. But hey I can see where you have left a few tracks of sawdust so we know you have been working.

Please keep them coming, I am looking forward to watching this one move ahead.

Since the garage is the main pathway in and out of our house, I try to keep things down to a minimum. Also being an asthmatic I have to deal with the dust situation and I use a respirator when I am doing sanding or anything that raises a greater amount of dust. I do use my dust collection system on all my machines so that really helps alot. I also sweep as I go as I live at the end of a cul-de-sac with a prevailing wind that comes into my garage so if I don't keep up with it then it get spread around greatly. Two of my favorite tools in my garage are the DC system floor sweep and my air compressor with the ceiling mounted reel as I keep it ready to go at all times and blow things off as I go towards the floor sweep.

Really looking good. As for the saw dust. I try to keep things a little cleaner while I am working. At least by my definition but if I am really busy it looks a little worse then my dust collector bag Grin.gif.
