June 24, 201115 yr Yep gang, here it is another Friday. Weather has been heating up, some areas are "covered" with rain and yes the humidity is on the rise. But with all of that I am sure some of you are getting to spend some time in the shop or doing projects around the house. First Friday is coming up on me pretty quick so I will be finishing up some cutting boards and a few other items to have to display and hopefully sell. I got nine cutting board glued up now and ready for me to start sanding. You just know I love sanding don't you? I had to set my oak table aside as I finished up the cabinet job, so now it is time to put a finish on that little table and get it delivered. The customer was came by last week and approved the color of the stain so I am good to go to finish it up. Got the new dovetail bits in so I can finish routing the dovetails for the cedar chest that has been standing in the corner. Going to try to get on that one pretty hard. And I am playing in a golf tournament tomorrow with my oldest son and two other gentlemen we go to church with. Should be a lot of fun and some much needed recreation. How about you, what's on your woodworking or non-woodworking agenda for this weekend?
June 24, 201115 yr I wish I had time for golf. I am still working on a comission and will be this weekend. I am also going to rough cut my SYP for my new (like I need another!) workbench. I am also looking for an interesting species of wood to use for the chop on my leg vise and my sliding deadman and possibly the plane stop. Finally, I am going to try to fit in a coin display for the coin challenge. I have a nice piece of 8/4 western cedar that would be perfect. Hope I have the time.
June 24, 201115 yr Doing some turquiose inlayed initials for red oak mirror frames. Little walnut ovals with the initial in the oval. The oval will then be domed and applied to the tops of the frames. I woulda inlayed the ovals into the frames, but I need to practice that technique first. Maybe next time. Then tomorrow I'll mix the final finish and try out Ralph's "Gold Dust" technique.Â
June 25, 201115 yr working - putting in windows tomorrow. rain up here has put us behind schedule so have to try to catch up, maybe after work can put in some shop time - doing something
June 25, 201115 yr Saturday I have to attend a wedding but Sunday after church I'll rub and wax mama's curio and get it in the house. Next week I work on coin holders. Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
June 26, 201115 yr Author Shot -13 (59) in the golf tournament today. Four person scramble and played with one of my son's, his former boss and his former boss's dad. We had a great time and won by a whopping 6 shots. 1st time I had played in over a year so my game was not that great, but I did hit a couple of nice chip shots and snaked in a few putts. The sad thing was I didn't get back in time for shop time today so I slip yet a little further behind. But hey a little fun was good and I sure used a few un-used muscles today. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworks
June 26, 201115 yr Got a few things and a couple others getting close. Finally got the 2 drawer file cabinet done. Got the dye on 1 of the 2 slab tops for the next show. The walnut one will be just a clear finish, no dye. The tiger maple is dyed a double coat of antique cherry. Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com

June 27, 201115 yr Author Well this afternoon was the afternoon that it would have been better not to have gone to the shop. I got started sanding the eleven cutting boards I have together and got through nine of them and the feed belt broke on my drum sander. And while I was checking it, I think I have a bearing going bad, but I couldn't tell which end of the drum so I guess I will just get both and have it taken care of. So since I couldn't run the rest of the cutting boards I decided to route the dovetails in the cedar chest. I had already cut the pins and was cutting the last sides tails and had a knot blow out and lost a whole tail. Right in the middle of the panel. I guess I will be gluing up another panel. After that I decided to come in, sit down and check out the web site. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworks
