June 26, 201114 yr Let's hear about your hand tools, and your "Go To" tools that you could not live without! So, Whaddya Got!
June 26, 201114 yr Lots! planes, chisels marking devises, I have got way more then I need. I do like infill planes the best. I have had a lot over my career. Had a few Norris planes. They are nice, but any infill is fun to use. I have not tried any of the new planes except some by Lie Nielson. I would like to know how they work compared to a bedrock? Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com
June 26, 201114 yr I have a Millers Falls 6" (I think) brace that stays on my bench. But I couldn't live without my LN #4 bronze. It is my go to tool. There is alot to say about block planes too. I have a Stanley #60 1/2 that stays in my apron as I work. I could list a dozen others as well. I am making a wooden square when I get a few hours and I imagine it will be high on the list.
June 26, 201114 yr A stanley #110 block plane, a Defiance #4 smooth plane, 2 stanley backsaws,  about 10 chisels, a spokeshave (flat sole), a wooden marking gauge ( for laying out), and a couple of pieces of just ordinary glass.    I also have in the shop an old Stanley Liberty Bell jointer plane.    Coming over to the shop later will be a Diston "Townsman" handsaw.  As for a collection of hammers and mallets, well, I seem to have quite a few sitting around, about 20 last count.
June 26, 201114 yr A man of my own heart, sir. Although that is quite a bit to have on your bench. I would love to see a pic of the Liberty Bell jointer.steven newman said: A stanley #110 block plane, a Defiance #4 smooth plane, 2 stanley backsaws,  about 10 chisels, a spokeshave (flat sole), a wooden marking gauge ( for laying out), and a couple of pieces of just ordinary glass.    I also have in the shop an old Stanley Liberty Bell jointer plane.    Coming over to the shop later will be a Diston "Townsman" handsaw.  As for a collection of hammers and mallets, well, I seem to have quite a few sitting around, about 20 last count.
June 26, 201114 yr If you look up my photo album, on the second page, you'll find not only the Jointer, but a few others as well.   Some were even handmade.  I forgot to mention a couple of coping saws in the above list. A "standard" one, and a "deep" one, both are also Stanleys.  Since I don't have a mortising machine, I have to use chisels instead. Adam Welker said: A man of my own heart, sir. June 26, 201114 yr On my bench you will find a Stanley Block Plane, A rack of chisels and a tub of pencils, besides that my marking knife and some squares. Most everything else is with in reach or a drawer that has easy access. Wayne God Bless our Troops and Protect them.
June 27, 201114 yr Adam here are some pics of my #132 Liberty Bell. It 26" long, blade is 2 5/8" wide and it's a type 2 made in 1886. Lighter than the Stanley #7 I have. No lateral adjustment lever. I havn't used it much but the sole is flat and ready to go. Mark Adam Welker said: A man of my own heart, sir. Although that is quite a bit to have on your bench. June 28, 201114 yr Author Well here is my modest line up, and I want to add more, I am in the same boat with Adam here, ever since I received my very first LN plane, I could never buy another brand. They are the cats meow.I have a No. 8C LN jointer2 number 6 Sweethearts1 number 4 LV and a number 4 Bronze LNA medium Shoulder Plane LNA 62 1/2 low angle LV, or I think it's akin to the #6A LV scrub, a couple Stanley miniature bullnose planesA LV scraper plane and another I am missing off the top of my head. Some day, I will own the entire line up of LN's, it's a dream. My no.8 and the Medium shoulder is signed by Tom Lie Nielsen himself, very cool, when you order from LN, you can request the ol man to sign it, and he does, he'll engrave his sig in your plane at no extra charge.Great turn out guys!!!John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
June 30, 201114 yr I had no idea that he would sign them. Thanks so much. I have quite a few LN's. I just ordered the Iron Miter Plane today. I want a dedicated shooting plane and I cant pay $500 for the #51. Not this week anyway. I have been using a LN #62 LAJ. I will have the whole collection one day too. If he would just stop making new models for a few years...Also, John, one of my favorites is the Bronze Edge Plane. I highly recomend it. It is $30 more than the Lee Valley version and looks and works wonderfuly. I joint all my glue ups with it and boy does it work.If it is not in my apron then it is on my bench for sure.By the way, I added a discussion on the Traditionalist Woodworker today about Handplane Fundimentals. I would be interested to see what you have to add to it.John Morris said:Well here is my modest line up, and I want to add more, I am in the same boat with Adam here, ever since I received my very first LN plane, I could never buy another brand.
