When choosing lumber at your rough sawn hardwood dealer how would you determine if you are getting some figure in the wood?

Taking along a small block plane would allow you to knock off some of the rough saw marks and see what the wood actually looks like. Of course make sure the owner doesn't mind you taking a closer look.

Good Morning Fellows,

Since I sell lumber and the buyer does not have a block plane with him, I have one at the storing unit for them to use to find what they may be buying and or looking for a good figure. I also let them pick out their own lumber so if it is not what they expected then it is on them. I never force anyone to rush while choosing the boards.
