What is the board telling you and can it have an effect on the use of that part of the board?
July 7, 201115 yr 1. There are internal stresses. 2. Depending on the project, the board may be able to be used to create short pieces.
July 7, 201115 yr You are cutting into "Tension Wood."Â You might be able to use it for some small pieces that are not subject to wood movement, depending on where it's used in the piece you're making.LarryLare..
July 8, 201115 yr This piece of wood is stressed out. It has some tension that it is looking to be relieve. Better to use it for short pieces in project.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
July 8, 201115 yr Author Good Morning Fellows,You all are most certainly correct and even though there is or has been some relief of tension it still could be used in a section where a curve might be needed. One could even make a profile on the piece such as a round over on the top side of the piece with the use of a router table with the curved piece upside down and the inside of the curve against the fence but, between the fence and router bit. Using this method would allow a profile to be cut into the piece. However the piece would be fed into the router bit from the left side to the right to avoid kick back as well as to eliminate and burnt marks.
