It's Friday, What's on your agenda??

Featured Replies

I know it is late on Friday, but my wife and I took off this morning visiting a few hardwood dealers. I was looking for some exotic woods as I was about out and the dealer I used to buy from closed so I was off and looking for a new supplier.

Headed out to Scottsboro, Alabama to a a place called The Hardwood Center. Man did they have the hardwoods. And man were they proud of them. But they had some 8/4 in almost every species and boards over 13" wide. Now we are talking serious wood here.

So I picked up a couple of pieces of Purple Heart and some Bloodwood and a few small pieces of Zebra Wood. I made some good notes on what they have I am sure I will be making another run later on.

Let there and drove to Franklin, Tn. and stopped in to the WoodCraft store. Have to have my fix on just walking around and touching all of the power tools and other woodworking supplies. I think the front of my shirt was wet from drool when I left.

Headed over to downtown historic Franklin and walked around the many shops. Man I saw some really nice furniture and got some great ideas on some pieces to build. I love to walk in the stores with my wife. She is looking for stuff and I am looking at the antique furniture they are using for displays.

We had a great day and put about 400 miles on the truck today. Now that is a road trip.

So I have the cedar chest on the workbench and should get it glued up this weekend. Got the top panel glued and the pieces cut and ready to make the bottom apron. I hope to get a good bit done on it tomorrow, but I do have a little painting job in the downstairs bathroom waiting on me so it will come first.

So what about you guys. I know it is hot in some areas, but some of you must be getting some shop time. What's on the bench or in case of some on here, how is the bench coming?

Today I got the vanity top cut down to final dimensions and got the brackets squared away and attached the backslpash to the vanity top. So now all I have to do tomorrow is to do all the final sanding on everything and then I can get it stained. I will have to wait until the end of next week to start final finish as I ordered a new spray gun so I can spray on the the shellac seal coat and then will finish it off using Waterlox. I am also on call for Jury Duty next week so hopefully that won't mess me up too much.

What spray gun did you order Allen?

Working Saturday but hoping to get to cut and glue up the table top for the Mrs. Queen Ann Style Table. Want to finish cleaning up the wood I got from the recycling run and clean my shop up a little more.

God bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.

Matt Seiler over on the Wood Magazine Forum recommend the Ex-cell ES2 as he has 4 of them with good results and fairly inexpensive. I will also be adding an in-line air/water filter on my compressor. It should be in late next week.

Finally got all the rolling pin blanks glued. They have been rough turned and are ready for sanding. Will post pix when they are finished

Working on an old table renovation for a friend.  A real basket case.

Glued up a leg. Just one. I lost my favorite chisel in the mess.

Well I got the Cedar chest glued up today.

Primed and painted the bathroom I have been working on forever. Hopefully will get the tile down this next week and have it in operation.

Also put a second coat of stain on my oak table. Needed to be a bit darker. See if it needs another one when it dries and then get the top coat on.

Please give us a review when you get it in. I would be interested in how well you like it.

So how well have you all done with your weekend projects? I got the bathroom drywall finished and the room painted. I also got the cedar chest glued up and the top panel glued up and all of it sanded. Progress is coming along nicely.

How about some updates on your projects.

I got the holes drilled in the top of my bathrrom vanity for the vessel sink and faucet and then did all the final sanding. Then I went through and cleaned up the garage sweeping up and blowing out as much dust as I could as well as moving all the machines back over to the single car side of the garage. Then I blew off all the pieces of the vanity with the air hose. Then I got a couple of tables set up and covered with plastic and then used a tack rag to wipe off the last of the dust before staining everything. The first coat of stain was a thinned down wash coat with mineral spirits to get it even and then the second coat was full strength. Everything turned out even and looks good. But what was really wierd was when I put the stain on the top, which is a 3 piece glue up all made from the same 10' board, the back piece took a much darker color than the other 2 pieces on the top. Oh well, as it has been said "If you can't hide it, advertise it" as it gives it a unique look. The top is easily removable so if I decide to down the road I can make a new one.

Tomorrow I have to report in for Jury Duty and will be taking my laptop with me as I still have to do Bible Study prep for our Wednesday night home fellowship group as we are working our way through Revelation 2. Also tomorrow is my wife's last day of teaching Summer School and she has 3 weeks off so while I always enjoy being on a jury doing my civic duty, I hope I get released on this one so we can have some travel time together.

Hey Allen, don't stop there, those little touch up guns are nice. Once you get the taste of spraying, you will soon be wanting a regular spray gun.Grin.gif
