July 9, 201114 yr Good morning Friends,Working the router table as mentioned in the last quiz. What method of dust collection would you use to avoid making a big mess on everything?
July 9, 201114 yr My fence has a dust collection port on the back of the fence. That, along with a table insert that closely matches the bit diameter provides pretty good chip collection- although some still manage to fall down under the table.
July 9, 201114 yr My fence has a port at the end and slits along the bottom edge. With the bit insert in the fence and the one in the table matching the bit size and a good shop vac, I get very little on the floor. Some times I wish the table were on a cabinet, though. Less dust and noise.
July 10, 201114 yr Author Good Morning Fellows,In my quiz I mentioned that the work piece would be inserted left to right between the bit and fence to avoid kick back or pulling the work piece through at a fast rate such as feeding a board into a RAS from the right to the left. If it were fed into the blade from the left it would grab the work piece and send it through a wall or into someone's body.So in order to collect the shavings it would be wise to place a dust collector in front of the bit or under the table and bit.
