July 10, 201115 yr I am having trouble finding traditional auger bits for my braces. I usually use the type that are found at home centers and I have no quibbles with them except that they are difficult to sharpen. I often see woodworkers use an older style bit. They look easier to sharpen and more traditional than the bits I buy.Does anyone know where to find these elusive bits? Does anyone have one (or twenty)? And finally, does anyone know a good technique to sharpen new auger bits? I can seem to get it right.Adam WelkerRed Car Construction and Fine Woodworking
July 10, 201115 yr What sizes are you looking for? I have a bunch of them here. Sharpening takes an auger bit file. I think I have some of those too. Let me know what you are looking for and I will see what I have. They are a few different patterns[styles]. Jennings was one and I know there are some more.bob Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com

July 10, 201115 yr Author I have an auger file. It doesnt work well on Irwin auger bits. I could use a nice set but I am looking for a 3/8" and an 1 1/4". One for the draw bores on my bench and one for the leg vise screw. I go through the ones available at home centers quickly and am looking for something older ( i.e. better quality).Bob Kloes said: What sizes are you looking for? I have a bunch of them here. July 10, 201115 yr Well Adam, so far no-go but I have to look in the barn yet. I'll keep you posted. Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
July 10, 201115 yr Author Thanks Ron. If you do find that you have a few you could spare, post pics of them for me. I just found some for sale on line but they look a bit beat up. I would take the word of a fellow woodworker over an on line description anyday.Adam WelkerRed Car Construction and Fine Woodworking
July 10, 201115 yr AdamI will go through my shop and see what I have. I don't have much in this line but what I have I will gladly send to you providing it is what you need. Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
July 10, 201115 yr Adam, email me your address and I am sure I can fix you up with some. Not sure if I have an 1.25"Â one, but I am sure I have an extra adjustable one. If you don't want to email me, just send me a note to my inbox. I know I have some big ship augers I will never use and lots of extra bits.bob Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com
