dust collection for a chop saw

Featured Replies

Looking for your ideas for dust collection for a sliding compound miter saw. I have a wood box I built  behind the saw, but it is a royal pain. I see thinks like the "big gulp" think and some other things. Do any of these units work? Are they wortht the price? I don't mind paying, but I want some honest feedback from guys you have them. Let me know what you have and if you like or don't like it. Thanks guys. bob

It is not very efficient but I removed the collection bag off the rear of my Hitachi slider and made an adapter to interface between the saw and the collector hose. It is better than the bag but it is not perfect, by any means.

I'll take a picture of what I had going with mine Bob, and post it here, I have not finished the collection area yet but you can get an idea of what I am intending on doing.

Thanks guys. I am looking forward to seeing what you have John. I got the box, but I have crud all over the floor.

Seen plans for a lower dump spot, usually a plastic bin of some type. Angle the backing in the hood and it directs the throw into the bin. Leaves little clean up and all you have to do is empty the plastic tub when needed. I'll see if I can the diagrams if you wish. Was planning on using this system when I do my next bench.

I think this is what I have seen. Looks like it takes a big space.

this doesn't look as big.

Would love to see what you come up with Wayne.

My saw is a slider. It sits on a bench and the slide extends over the back side of the bench.

I bought a Big Gulp a few months ago. Rockler has device that holds the hose and Big gulp, and clamps to a support (they show it on a out feed roller stand). But, from the pattern of the debris from my saw, the Big Gulp won't catch it all. It looks like I'm going to have to build an angled shroud, with the Big Gulp at the small end, to catch all the dust.

Thanks Gene.  There was one that came up on a google search from a company called Rousseau, or something like that. Said it was sold by all the woodworking companies, but I could not find it anywhere. I emailed them, but have not heard back.
