Good Afternoon Friends,

When the side of home faces south and there are a lot of windows in the walls as well as maybe a patio door. What steps would you take that would cut down on the heat through those windows or door?

Plant a BIG tree- maples work good. Build a porch. Curtains. Solar glass. Awnings.

Good Morning Lewis,

Yes, a big tree would help however it takes a long time for a tree to grow to the height that would be beneficial however in my home we have vertical blinds over the patio door that we may close to avoid the direct heat of the sun and mini blinds that can be turned to reflect the rays back out rather than into the home. Also having whole house AC helps a lot but by closing the blinds will help the length of running time for the AC.

With the temperatures running so high the Heat feels lie 102º to 104º during the heat of the day around 4 or 5 P M each day.
