August 1, 201114 yr I finished the Cedar Chest from several weeks back this weekend. It was already close but I got the Shellac sprayed on and I am happy with it. Â Once again I used the Torsion Hinges from Rockler. Love the way they hold the lid in any position and keep it from falling on heads and hands. Â And here is a shot of me with the cedar chest. August 1, 201114 yr Author Thanks Jeff. Thanks Shane, I had to ham it up a bit. I am the one that is usually not in the pictures so I decided to get in the shop with some of my projects when I finish them. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
August 1, 201114 yr Nice chest. Was this a commission or for fun? My job is to give my kids things to discuss with their therapist
August 1, 201114 yr Hey John, beautiful job man. love the warm color of that chest. What did you finish it with? And, the forever curious question, how'd ya do the DT's? John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
August 1, 201114 yr Those first three pics are really nice and the chest is very nice in all 4. Just picking on you John. That is indeed a fine job on that chest. I bet it really smells nice . I have the end walls of our walk in bedroom closetcovered in red aromatic cedar. Just hit it once in a while with some fine sanding paper to refresh the odor .Something special with that lawn as a back drop for the cedar, looks very appealing. I know you had to mow the yard just for the pics. Thanks for sharing.
August 1, 201114 yr Author Well at this point Ken I am hoping it is a commission piece. I had a request for a good friend for one when I got it done. I have called and left a message so I am hoping they pick it up but if not it will just be for sale to the next person. Ken Rasmussen said:Nice chest. August 1, 201114 yr Author John, I would love to tell you they were cut by hand, but I used a router and a jig. It is way faster than I am and doesn't allow me to make too many mistakes. It is finished with Shellac. I brushed on three coats and them sanded and sprayed on another just to give it a smooth finish. John Morris said:Hey John, beautiful job man. love the warm color of that chest. August 1, 201114 yr Author Leo, and I was posed so well. LOL Thanks for the complements. I like the look of the lawn in the pictures also. I didn't mow before they were taken but I usually mow twice a week. Again, thanks. Leo Pedersen said:Those first three pics are really nice and the chest is very nice in all 4. Just picking on you John. That is indeed a fine job on that chest. August 2, 201114 yr JohnGreat job. Looks great. Really enjoyed seeing this. Are they hand cut dove tails ? Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
August 2, 201114 yr Very nice John. Shellac is the perfect finish on the outside. Anything else and the sap will bleed through. Hope it doesn't come through anyway. It can be a bugger . Routers do make nice dovetails. I will have to post about a new jig I have. I just need to get it through all the paces yet.bob Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com
August 4, 201114 yr Author Thanks Lare, I knew I looked really young. Â No Wayne they were done with a Router and Jig. I wish I could hand cut them that good. One day I am going to build one and do them by hand, but it will take a lot of practice. Â Thanks Bob. I really like the Shellac. No finish on the inside. Â Give us a little info on your jig. I am always interested in how others are doing them. Â Â John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
