WOODWORKING QUIZ for 09 AUGUST 11 "a learning tool"

Featured Replies

Good Morning Friends,

They say never try to free hand cut a board on the table saw. However one fellow figured out a way to hold the piece down as he made the cut without using a fence or sled to make any type of a cut from a bevel to a diagonal cut on the saw without worry of being in a dangerous spot.

How do you think he did it?

My dad does it all the time Ralph. I nearly fell over when I found out he was doing it, gave him the big safety speech etc, nope, didn't phase him. He cuts sheet goods free hand frequently. It drives me nuts. If you think about it though, there is no fence for the material to bind up on. So as long as you keep the material fairly straight, you'll cut it just fine, no different then a Skill Saw, how often does your Skill Saw bind up if you maintain a fairly straight cut. I would be more concerned about the quality of cut though, then the safety.
