WOODWORKING QUIZ for 10 AUGUST 11 "a learning tool"

Featured Replies

Good morning Friends,

I can't for the life of me, find the quiz for yesterday 09 AUGUST so here is the one for today.

With September coming just around the corner and before we know it frost will be covering everything and I am wondering if one has a frost free outdoor faucet, is it necessary to unhook and drain the hose of any water or can one just leave it connected?

Leave it alone & it should be just fine until spring.

Just make sure it's thawed out before you try to unroll it.3.gif

I just keep hammering away.

I've left the hose in place for seven years now on my frost free spigot.   Also, did anybody notice what happens whenever you turn the hose off?

My feeling is that the faucet needs to drain out and leaving the hose on might prevent that. The hose gets rolled up and stored in the basement. Besides, I'm sure not going to water the yard when there's a foot of snow on the ground and the temps are down in the low 20's if that warm!

Good Morning Fellows,

Harry is correct that in order for the frost free faucet to work properly is to unhook the hose from it for the directions has a caution label that states it will not drain properly if the hose is still connected. You fellows who left the hose connected are just plain lucky, however it is your choice.

That noise one hears when they shut off the water is the sound of siphoning.     The spigot is draining out into the hose, all the way back inside to where the valve actually is.    Usually about a foot back inside.    Around my place,  they down even roll the hose back up when done, they just leave it lay.   Frown.gif
