August 11, 201114 yr Good Morning Friends,I noticed yesterday that the caulking on the North side of my house around the windows is in dire need to be recaulked for it has been several years since I last caulked them. Now the Mind Bender for today is do you pull the caulking gun while you squeeze the trigger or do you push it along?
August 11, 201114 yr Pushing aids in the caulk penetrating deeper and sealing better. Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
August 11, 201114 yr Usually I pull it along.  If needed, I can smooth things out as I go.   Pushing along seems to drag dirt and other stuff along.  I can see what the bead is doing.  If you have a void pushing along, then you have to go back and fill it in.  Too many kitchen-type counter tops in the past.  When not pouring concrete, I was inside doing finish work on washrooms/meeting rooms/breakrooms.  All had back splashes to caulk in place.  'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
August 11, 201114 yr Does licking your finger and pressing the caulk into place count? I'm terrible at this regardless of which way I do it. Watched a professional widow replacement technician do it and he pulled the gun along. It was a perfect bead. So I guess it's about half and half.
August 12, 201114 yr i have always had good luck pulling ralph, one trick though that i learned is to throw away the caulking guns that have the "click teeth" on the rod, and get a gun that has a smooth rod, it is a much smoother operating gunÂ
August 12, 201114 yr Author Good Morning Friends,I too used to pull the bead along and then come back and smooth it out until a professional painter taught me how to push it along and cut in a nice neat job in half the time and I have used it ever since. To get to a corner you start about 6" away and push it in the corner and then just turn around and push to the other corner and you would be hard pressed to find where you started the job.
