August 21, 201114 yr Good Morning Friends,When using a builder's level or a transit that has been leveled in why is it true that the line of sight will always be the same as you turn the instrument 360º?
August 21, 201114 yr Leveling the transit assures the base platform of the transit is level in all directions. The scope of the transit is exactly parallel to the base so once the base is leveled the scope will maintain a level line in a 360 degree turn.
August 21, 201114 yr   Some do, others will not.   I keep an eye on the bubbles as I spin the head.   We had one down on a Dayton, Ohio job (Lord) that was almost as old as Ralph.    Used it on a footer to set grade, footer wound up with a 3" "belly" that the masons had to cut blocks to account for.    25' of footer, raised 3" in the middle of the run.   That transit was "retired" the next day.  Laser levels are alright, out to a certain distance.      There are several levels on a transit/builder's level/laser level.   Key an eye on them as you move the head.   Also, recheck the level IF you have to leave it for awhile.   Someone MIGHT have "tapped" on their way by.  IF you are set up on a "point"  (batter board) recheck that as well.   IF things aren't lining up like they should, someone has hit the batter board as well ( BTDT)  so double check as you go. 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
August 22, 201114 yr Author Good Morning Fellows,This quiz came out of my teachers manual when I was teaching Vocational Carpentry and the quiz at the end of the chapter and the answer in that quiz was "a line of sight does not sag, bend, or curve if the level or transit was set level from the beginning."
