I have never introduced myself to the forum.  I am from the Buckeye state and yes I do attend the OSU football games.  I left Ohio in 1978 to join the US Navy.  Of course you know what Navy stands for?  Never Again Volunteer Yourself.   (joking)  I spent 10 years in the submarine force with 4 years on shore duty in Groton, CT.  I was an Electronics Technician during my time.  Afterwards I left the Navy (blew out my left knee, had surgery and was medically discharged) and joined Philips Medical.  I spent 20 years to the day (exactly) working for Philips before the big downsize occured and I was left employment. I now work for Aurora MRI Imaging. 


 


In my spare time I love woodworking and working with my hands.  I also work on computers.  I even had a opportunity to do both at the same time.  I built a wooden case (made from cherry) for my computer.  Its water cooled and has an entire "pump house" dedicated to cooling the CPU, graphics card, memory as well as the north and south bridge chips.  I built the water system from scratch and it has many different features in it, like I have a TEC chip that is attached to a water cooling block to lower the temperature when turned on.  I have a dedicated power supply that I run for the water system with alarms built in just in case of a malfunction. 


 


I am presently involved in restoration of a Powermatic 45 VS lathe (as you have seen on the forum). 


 


Ok the only military force that I do not have a joke for is the US Air Force.

I can joke with other military because we all served together. I loved serving and would go back in an instant.  No regrets...

Doug, Welcome aboard and thanks for that great introduction. So I am curious about the computer case and water cooled system. I am a Systems Admin by day. Got any pictures you could share of the computer system. You know that the first Apple computer was in a wooden case.


 


I am enjoying following your restoration of the Lathe.

I usually refered to the Air Force as the Air Farce, just to tick my brother off.   He was in the active Air Farce for 20 years, and retired out of Wright-Pat AFB in Dayton,Ohio.  I'm in the Retired-Reserves, having retired from the National Guard in 96.   Maybe we aught to start a "Buckeye Group" here?  Grin.gif

Thanks for the background Doug. A water cooled computer. That does sound like something a sub guy might do. Would love to see that. I always thought wood cabinets for computers are cool. bob

Doug, I'm about an hour north of Community North.  There are two nice woodworking stores (a W and an R) within 5 minutes of Community North.

I know of the WC near the hospital and that it is the one they use on their advertisements.  Didn't know about R.

The WC is interesting to get to.  The R is down 82nd steet in the Castleton Mall area.  Really good guys in there.

BTW, if you ever make it to Muncie and the IU/Ball Hosital there give me a scream and I'll meet you for lunch.  That's about 20 minutes from me.
