August 24, 201114 yr  Last saturday on PBS around my area,  Roy underhill AND The Schwarz  were on the woodwright shop.   The discussion was all about how to handsaw properly.  American style( Roy)  vs English style (Chris Swarz) and even a little French style thrown in.     The biggest tip I picked up was how to actually START a cut.   Chris used a chisel to make a small channel on the waste side to guide the saw.  He made a small "V" cut so that the blade would follow along.  He also showed a special "overhand"  grip when using a rip saw.  With the teeth pointing away from him as he was rippping, at that. 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
August 25, 201114 yr I have seen that episode as well. The one that follows it also features The Schwarz as they go over the Joiner and the Cabinetmaker. Good stuff. You can watch all the old episodes on the PBS website for free. I have seen them all. Adam WelkerRed Car Construction and Fine Woodworking
