August 25, 201114 yr Recently I received a sample of the new General Finishes "Woodturners Finish".  It's a water based finish that goes on easily with rag or brush, dries quickly and leaves a lovely Satin luster. Thanks to Bob Kloes for the lead on the sample.  I used the finish on some Santa Fe style pots I'm making for a church event in Nov. The sample is a model is a pot we bought in Santa Fe in the early 1980's.  After cutting some blanks on the bandsaw approx 6 across by 6 tall, I made some 1/4" ply templates to reflect the dimenisions of the model. After getting the outside in the proper shape, sanded and finished with a coat of shellac, I decided to add turquoise decoration. I found patterns and taped the pattern to the pot.  Tapping an awl through the pattern transfered the outline to the blank and I was ready to cut it with a dental handpiece.  A little CA and crushed stone, sand or cut the excess and we're in business.  After drilling a pilot hole, I used a 2 1/8" forstner bit to clean out the bulk of the inside. A pass with Jameison Hollowing Rig left the inside smooth and ready for finishing.  Incidentially, this is Dogwood from a neighbors property.  So far I've got 6 or 7 finished. I need 8 pristine pieces for the Nov event, so I'll make a few more and Sharon can pick the 8 she likes best.   These samples all have the General Finishes Woodturners Finish. It is a very nice finish to use and I recommend it to all the Patriot's.  Best regards, Tom, in Douglasville, getting into the swing of Santa Fe pots. September 2, 201114 yr Tom, those a great looking pots and thanks for showing how you did them. I just moved away from living in Albuquerque for the last 16 years, so those Santa Fe Pots touch home for me. I wonder about the durability of the finish, it looks good, but will it wear off being picked up, felt and touched? What's in that finish? Tom
