August 26, 201114 yr Good Morning Friends,When setting trusses, why is it important that the first gable truss to be mounted true and plumb?
August 26, 201114 yr This truss will become the reference for the remaining trusses and the rest of the roof construction. If it is out, everything else is going to be a pain in the a$$ to line up.
August 26, 201114 yr and  well braced with a couple "strongbacks" to keep it that way.   That way, they won't be falling over as you set the rest.   Nails alone won't keep that truss standing up. 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
August 27, 201114 yr Author Good Morning Lewis and Steve,You both are 100% correct for it is essential that your frame work will be a lot easier to do if the gable ends are true, plumb and braced. The garage we are going to set the trusses on today is 15 courses high with double plates on top of the walls.I prefer to nail a 2 x 2 one the ends to make a definite stop for the bottom of the gable truss set in the thickness of the truss because this gives the truss a set apace to make it flush with the top plates. One can not be too safe while setting the first truss on the end of the building.Thank you for your support.
