August 26, 201114 yr Yes here we are at another Friday and everyone is ready for another weekend. Although some of you/us work in the shop all week, this gives us a chance to catch up on what projects you are finishing or just beginning. I have 10 cutting boards on my bench ready for the final sanding. They have been through the drum sander at 80 grit and 120 grit. I should get them good and slick and apply the mineral oil over the weekend. I have five hand mirrors I turned last weekend and got the final spray finish on them late last night so they are ready for the mirror to be secured and the handle inserted into the mirror head. Hope to get those all together early tomorrow morning. I am going to try to turn a few seam rippers as I have sold out of those and have a one day and a two day show coming up back to back so it will be a long weekend. Also got the porch swing to start making templates for so I can get started cutting those out. Lots to do and looking forward to some time in the shop. How about you, what are you working on now or this weekend as we get ready to head into Fall? John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
August 26, 201114 yr Hopefully Finish up the Ascension Cross, my great nephews birthday party is Saturday, Get some more work done on the bookcase. Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
August 26, 201114 yr Couple of Honey-do jobs, then making a shroud for dust collection behind my SCMS and a hinged bench for grinder, belt sanders.Â
August 26, 201114 yr I have three cutting boards in the mix with 2 done with their first glue ups yesterday and I can level them out a bit and then get the angled cuts done on the table saw and do the 2nd glue ups today. I have to get these done by the middle of next week, so I have to stay focused and not let other stuff get in the way. Fortunatly our home bible study group did not meet this past Wednesday night as 6 of the 9 folks were either traveling or had family or work obligations. So that means that I am a week ahead in my study prep and can devote more time this week to make sure things are done in the shop. I love doing Revelation, but it is definetly the most time consuming study that I have done.
August 26, 201114 yr With my TV cabinet out of the way, a corner china cabinet is next up. Hope to start this weekend, but I still have a lot of straightening up to do (in the shop) and some odds and ends (sharpening, etc.). With luck I'll get started on the cabinet. No Ref
August 27, 201114 yr Well guys. Got the Ascension Cross finished today. Only one problem with it, while taking off the tape and pattern, it slipped out of my hands, hit the floor and went into 2 pieces. CA glue was not able to put it together again so tomorrow at some point I have to run and get some 12 wide Paddock and start all over. I would include pics by right now, It's a little hard to look at it again. How ever I will provide them. A small note on the bright side with this, look at the practice I got for #2. August 27, 201114 yr Laying pipe Started tonight laying pipe from my shop to the house for the heating system im making to help heat the house during our wonderful winters up here. Hope to have the pipe in ground and buried tomorrow. (Saturday)
August 27, 201114 yr I know the feeling Wayne, I dropped a desk name plate as I was handing to a customer a couple months ago and yep the name went into at least 4 piecesWayne Mahler said: Well guys. August 29, 201114 yr Author Weekend is coming to an end. How about an update from some of you on what you accomplished John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
August 29, 201114 yr  I got all 3 of the cutting boards into their 2nd glue up and they are now ready to run through the drum sander to final thickness tomorrow and trimmed to size. I have a friend of my son coming over tomorrow to put front struts on my Ford F-150 as he is a mechanic and does work on the side. Struts are not rocket science, but after my 3 back surgeries crawling around under a truck and contorting myself into the fender wells is not high on my list as I would be down for the count a couple of days dealing with muscle spasms. I would rather pay him to do it for me as opposed to paying the local auto center to do it and it will be cheaper for me and good for him as he and his wife have 2 small kids to feed.
August 29, 201114 yr Author Sound good Allen, I got the finish on 7 or 8 cutting boards I finished this afternoon. Sounds like a win win for both of you on the struts. I don't blame you for getting someone to do it for you. Best to take care of the back. Nothing worse than a back problem to put you down.  John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
August 29, 201114 yr Author Well I finished up several projects this weekend to get ready for a couple of craft shows coming up in the next few weeks.  This was the latest batch of cutting boards.  I finished two cherry, two maple and one walnut hand mirrors.  And four seam rippers, one Leopard wood, Purple Heart, Walnut and Cherry. I finished these with the new General Finishes Turners Finish. Applied it on the lathe and put about five coats on each one. Other than the drying time and like others, I used a heat gun to speed that process up it works really good.  Was quite a busy weekend but a great time in the shop.  John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
