August 26, 201114 yr Well I had just broke my blade on the band saw so making pens is at a bit of a standstill or at least a slower than usual pace, so I thought I would take the time to have a bit of fun with one of my favorite small projects, the refrigerator magnet. Taking a scrap of what I believe is maple that otherwise would have went to the waste bin, I mounted it into my blank drilling jig and drilled a 23/64 hole (same size as a common bottle stopper shaft) about 1 inch deep. then took a 1/2" bit and drilled just over a 1/8" deep hole for the actual magnet to rest in. Drilling the hole just over 1/8" allows me to make sure the blank is trimmed straight and still have enough for the magnet to seat properly. Â Then begin trimming and rounding of the wood to the desired thickness. This is where you can really get creative since there is no rule that says you have to make it a particular shape or size. As long as the blank can properly be mounted and the magnet can properly be seated after the turning is done, the rest is up to the creator. Â this is where it's at so far. More to come, Â Stay tuned! Â Charles

August 26, 201114 yr Sounds like an interesting project, keep us posted please. As for you temporary interruption, isn't great when they want to show you affection? Both of my dogs come down to visit periodically, and I have to take time to pay them a little attention. Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
