September 1, 201114 yr The 1st photo with the panel door as a back drop makes your maple look thick. In the last photo it looks very thin. Anyway, do you have enough thickness to band (re) saw into 4 peices of veneer, say 1/16 to 3/32???? I see beautiful book match doors for maybe a small cabinet...........or even a jewelry box top if it's real small peice of wood.
September 1, 201114 yr Author Its all 4/4 stock Gary. The last picture is after I ran 1 face over the jointer. It will finish out about 13/16" thick. It would make a nice book match. Tiger maple does not bookmatch well at all. Not sure how the curl in this would do. bob Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com

September 2, 201114 yr Bob, not being a sawyer myself, I wonder if those bark inclusions were someday destined to be Birds Eye. Or maybe they were Birdseye and turned into bark? I have no idea what I am talking about. Just an observation. Great looking stuff. As usual. John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
September 2, 201114 yr Author John, they are just bark. I guess it is like birdseye and curl, they have no idea what causes it or why it happens. I have seen some that has very large areas of bark. It is all considered a defect so these were going for pallet stock. I just thought they look very unusual. I was thinking about a man's jewelery box or tool cabinet. bob Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com
September 2, 201114 yr i have some bark pocket maple myself bob, i have seen some done on a raised panel counter assemble with a "normal" type of wood for the rails and styles. look good when done, Paul
September 2, 201114 yr Author Paul, I bet that does look nice. This stuff was from 1 log and it all matches up nice. I gave 1 piece to an old Native American guy who makes tomahawks and war clubs. He did some for movies, like Dances with wolves. He traded me some for some wood. They sure are nice. bob Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com
