Blades

Featured Replies

This topic usually stirs up a good debate. What type of blades does everyone use and why? Personally I prefer flat blades, typically a skip tooth reverse, however I do use some crown tooth blades occasionally. As for spirals well all I can say is only when absolutely neccesary, and then I prefer the flat end ones.

I use flat blades. I like then and in the larger sizes 7 and up I file the backs of the blades for ease in turning tighter corners. Spiral I use to emphasize veining where needed. The only blades I use are pin less.

I use flat pinless blades, either Olsen or Flying Dutchman Ultra blades for all of my work. I use a range of sizes from #7 down to a 2/0 for very detailed fret work like Sheila Landry's designs. The blades are usually reverse tooth but I do use regular skip tooth blades once in a while

I order a batch of blades from Judy Roberts site. They came in a package marked online. Silver in color and are the nice. Last long and are super sharp. I'm wondering if the are repacking another brand of blades. The price is really good though. Going to order more soon.

I don't think I ever heard the term flat blades before.  From reading it sounds like what I been using any way.  Basically I use the crown  # 5 and # 7.  I also used the skip tooth reverse in both the #  5 and # 7.  Those sizes seems to work best for me.  Do have # 2 and I think # 3 in both blades style.  Do have some spirals but have used the but twice.  Seems I want to go all over the board and not where I want to cut out.  Guess I'm not holding my mouth open just right

Typically as far as size goes i use #3 &#5's, but I do keep some other sizes on hand just in case. Speaking of which I need to order some next week.
