Good Morning Friends,

When you are running trim for a home whether it is yours or for someone else. Do you want the trim pre-stained or do you stain after installation?

I run the trim pre stained with one coat of poly. I come back after installation and fill nail holes then put on a final coat of poly.

Pre-finished as Adam said. I have been using the filler "pencils". After application/buffing there is little left to do.

 Also, keep some of the stain/finish around.  That way, you can finish all the ends as you trim/cope/miter them.

I agree with you all for this eliminates having to tape the walls and that includes a scarf joint on the longer run walls such as a hallway.
