BUBINGA!

I uses a thinned poly and applied a couple coats with a cloth at slow speeds.  After drying, TreWax and 0000 steel wool while still on the lathe turning.

A stainless steel clamping lever that locks down the square turret to the cross-slide.

The bowl looks fantastic!  I love the way you created the edge of the bowl.  What wood did you use?

Gosh, I was not familiar with this wood, until I just googled it.  Food safe, often used for musical instruments.  This wood can even be found in Lexus vehicles.  Beautiful exotic wood.

The 6" diameter x 4" thick  Bubinga bowl blank was $20.  Turns well, at least on a metal lathe using two hands..

My problem is I like big bowls - 12" to 15" in diameter.  I think I would have to mortgage my house to afford a piece large enough to accommodate a 13 3/4 inch bowl.    I'm going to have to win the lottery before I can play with the exotic woods.  I read that wood is hard!

It's also a little btittle because of it's hardness and changing grain directions.  Finishes well.  See my earlier post in this thread on how I did that.

And John2 had a good observation.  It does look like walnut when it's finished.
