September 9, 201114 yr Picked up about 900 bf of QSWO today, well actually my son and a very good friend of mine picked it up from the mill today. I'll get you picture when I get to see it myself. Cut up about 10 or 12 poplar logs last night that I will take to the mill tomorrow morning. The mill is a steam powered mill and they only run it part time. It is also run by the Amish. Other than that for me it looks like a weekend of stacking lumber. Maybe I will get to catch a little football. So what about you, what are you working on this weekend?    John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
September 9, 201114 yr A wedding that I absolutely cannot get out of and a little football, of course.  Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
September 9, 201114 yr Started cleaning the shop last night. Haven't been in all summer except for fooling around on the lathe a little. Have crud all over, even spiderwebs. Getting the woodworking itch, now that the kids are back in school and life isn't so hectic . Â -Ace-
September 9, 201114 yr I finally got started on doing the bath remodel yesterday. I removed the old vanity and then scraped the walls and patched the holes.Today I will be sanding the walls and get ready to shoot texture tomorrow. I am hoping to get it primed on Sunday, but we will see.  Here is the old vanity in place  Here is the bath with the vanity removed and with the walls patched.    Here is the new vainty that I built ready to install when I get things done in the bath. September 9, 201114 yr John......No pics.....didnt happen....lol My job is to give my kids things to discuss with their therapist
September 9, 201114 yr Author Here you go Ken. Â Â This was the first stack. Â Stacked but will have to be re-stacked in the barn.Just had to get it off the trailer to load the poplar logs. Â Â This is not a good picture, it was getting dark when I took this, but these are poplar logs that will go to the mill tomorrow. Â I think there were 15 total. Most are about 18 to 20" diameter and about 9' long. Â John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
September 9, 201114 yr Be sure to bury something. I have to at times. It then happens that what I need is under a 1000' ft stack. Kind of like the firewood thing of warming you twice. I hate when that happens. I have almost 2000' coming next week. Gt to find some room....bob Bob Kloeswww.bobkloes.com
September 9, 201114 yr Author Isn't that the way it also works out Bob. What you need or want is on the bottom of the stack. Â It sure is nice to see those logs become usable lumber instead of going to the land fill or just laying and rotting. Â Â Â John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
September 9, 201114 yr Do you need an address to ship that too John? It looks like you need to lighten the load a little. I know just the place for the extras.....LOL Nice haul....Wishin I had some room of my own My job is to give my kids things to discuss with their therapist
September 10, 201114 yr Getting the rest of the scroll saw parts done, so that I can get to the point of reassembly. Also have to make a couple of more parts. After reassembly giving the old saw a test run at making sawdust, I've got to wonder how long it's been since it tasted wood. Larry
September 10, 201114 yr Author About to head out to the Saw Mill this morning. Heading up to the Amish community and we are going to a steam powered saw mill. My friend that helps me collects steam whistles and found this mill. They were going to fire it up this morning at 6:00 and take us at noon. I'll get some pictures and put up later today. I am heading out to a University of North Alabama football game this evening and then a concert with Big Daddy Weave, a Christian Contemporary artist right after the concert. Taking two of my granddaughters with me all day today. Should be an experience for them. Hope you all are having a great weekend with this beautiful fall weather. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
September 10, 201114 yr John, I love Big Daddy Weave! I saw them a few years ago in Monterey, CA at the big "Spirit West Coast"Christian music festival (think "Woodstock" for Christians without all the sex and drugs, but plenty of Christian rock and roll). They are some real genuine guys and I have a couple of their CD's and a few of their songs are on my iTunes worship mix.John Moody said:About to head out to the Saw Mill this morning. Heading up to the Amish community and we are going to a steam powered saw mill. September 11, 201114 yr Author Here is a video of the steam powered saw mill we took some logs to yesterday. Â Â Â Â And I thought it was very appropriate for this mill. It was posted on the wall as you walked up. Â Â Â John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
September 11, 201114 yr Very interesting John.Just out of curiosity from a city boy, what does it cost to have them mill the lumber for you?
September 11, 201114 yr Author Well they have had a price increase since the last time we were at this particular mill. Last year it was a nickle a board foot but this year they went up to .08/bf, wow. Those guys really work for what they do. It took them about an hour to cut up the logs we took. We had a red oak a white oak and four poplar logs. It came to just over 1100 board feet. This particular mill is about an hour from my house. Oh and they fed us lunch on top of that. They always have people dropping by and when they took a break for lunch we were invited to stay and have lunch with them.  Allen Worsham said:Very interesting John.Just out of curiosity from a city boy, what does it cost to have them mill the lumber for you?
September 11, 201114 yr Author After the day at the saw mill we took our granddaughter's to the local university football game and stayed for the concert after the game. Â Big Daddy Weave, a Christian contemporary group and Dove award winner was there. Â A great time of worship after the football game. September 11, 201114 yr JohnYou couldn't have a better day. A the concert, I am jealous as I love that group. I had a good day also. Started at Church and then back to the fence job. This fence job is for a Lady friend of Cindy and I and can't afford much. So donating time, labor and skill is working out great for us. And having a chance to talk about the LORD is always great and rewarding. Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
September 12, 201114 yr I am a bit green with envy as well about Big Daddy Weave. To bad they don't make it out to my neck of the woods in So. Calif. My wifeTami and I do get out to see Darrell Mansfield about once a month as he lives locally and plays just about every weekend at a local mexican restaurant if he is not traveling. He is an amazing blues guy and is the best I have ever heard on the harmonica. He came out in the 70's with a Christian band called Gentle Faith and then went solo in the late 70's. If you never heard of him here is his website.http://www.darrellmansfield.net/
