A bit of help needed

Featured Replies

This concerns the blank drilling chuck, Item CSCPENCHK from PSI .

While opening it to fit in a blank to be drilled, one of the "wings" for lack of a better word, fell off, now after trying for about 15 minutes to get the thing back on, it isn't straight.

It looks straight, yet when I go to drill a hole, I notice that it is slightly out of alignment but not by much, but what is there is enough to nearly vibrate the lathe off the stand.

Anyone know how I get this chuck straight again? does anyone else here even use one?

As it is now, all penmaking is at a stop until i can figure out how to align this thing corectly. I have emailed their support but as yet have not got a reply, of course its only been a half hour anyway.

Charles I don't use a chuck like that one, but the usually have a groove they sit in. Make sure it is seated and then tighten up the screws that hold it.

I would not wait on an email response, but call them. I have before and they were very helpful and got the problem I had going very quickly.

Keep us informed.

Charles, it sounds like when the jaw came it you got some backlash introduced into the system. Here's what I'd try.  Remove the screw from the jaw (wing) that fell off.  re-insert the screw and gently push the jaw away from the center of the while you slowly turn the screw counter-clockwise.  You'll feel the leading edge of the screw drop a bit as you turn.  When it drops, turn the screw clockwise until the threads engage.  This will bemove the backlash from the jaw.  If you still have wobble, do this procedure to the oher jaw.

they're called snap ring or split ring pliers. they have different size pins to fit differing sizes of holes so be sure to buy the correct size if you need to.

I'm glad you posted those other pictures. It really helps to understand what your problem was. I think when you get those pliers it you should be able to get them back together.
