September 13, 201114 yr My grandson wants a treasure chest for Christmas, so I started to get some wood in mind. One Saturday I was on my morning walk and walked by a garage sale. There was this old chest, beat up, dirty and the finish was gone. However the wood was solid and the hardware was worth more than what I paid for the whole thing. I redid it all and added some Pirate stuff. I think the guy who sold it to me was a retired Pirate, so that makes it authentic. I also used safety closers/lifts from Rockler
September 13, 201114 yr That's prety cool Ron. What are the dimensions? Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
September 13, 201114 yr Author It is 30" wide, 16" deep and 19" high. It is a product of Mexico and the hardware was attached with large nails that I replaced with screws. There were many places with exposed edges or metal pieces that would have been a certain safety problem. I really like the Rockler toy box safety closers. There is a left and right and they calculated the lid weight and selected two in that range. they hold it open and it will not shut, unless you apply some pressure on the lid.
