I picked up my Cresent mortiser last week.  The thing purrs like a kitten and has no issues that I know of.  I'm going to put a fresh coat of gloss black paint on it.  I'm pretty excited but I don't have 3 ph, I'll have to deal with that.

Very nice Jeff. There are a lot of ways to deal with 3ph. I would suggest a VFD. They are fairly inexpensive, easy to wire. Im guessing the motor is 1hp or less on the mortiser, VFD will run about $150.

Nice mortiser Jeff. I have a fay and Egan, real close looking to yours. The hand wheel in on the right rather then the left like yours. I bet that will look nice when you are done. A vfd is a nice way to start with 3 phase. Ken is right on. Maybe you want to look at a rotary converter as time goes on. Good luck and thanks for showing us. Did it come with any chisels and bits?

Thanks guys for your nice comments.  I am sort of electrically challenged.  I'll probably go with the VFD with the help of others.
