Oak Refrigerator Magnets

Featured Replies

Here are some oak refrigerator magnets I made up a few days ago for a gal at work that ordered them. They have a recessed magnet on the back.

It it can't be fixed with glue and sawdust - it's not worth fixing.

Great work guys! This is why I admire scrollers, the detail is reeeally nice, it takes a certain type of woodworker to have the patience it takes to cut those details in. My hat off to ya's!

Thanks, Charles.   Your vessel looks great!  Beautiful wood.  I attached a youtube vdeo of a little tiny box being made on the lathe.  Thought you might find it interesting.

Here's the first one i did, after this picture was taken and i saw the residue buildup in the grooves I used a tooth scraper and a light touch to get it out. It recently sold for $1 ;/ not even full cost. I gotta stop working for free lol.

P.S. it's Amboyna burl and actually off the same piece i used to make the Majestic Rollerball pen

John, appreciate the kinds words.  This should have been a quick and easy little project. However, I ended up cutting about four little trucks that ended up in the garage because I drilled the hole on the back which holds the recessed magnet a bit deep, and it pierced the front of the first two magnets, broke off the last letter on another one, and broke the thin area at the windshield on yet another one.   With patience and a little care while sanding and drilling - these should be easy and quick to cut. By the time I was done with these two little trucks, I was mighty tired of them.  The recipient was happy with her two little trucks, and I didn't share with her all the trials and tribulations I went through in creating them.  :)

Susie, as long as the end product looks great that's what counts. I don't know how much wood I have wasted learning to do compound cuts, it can get frustrating to say the least. I have tried to cut a tooth shaped toothpick holder several times and it just won't come out right. I'll try again in 6 months or so and see if I have any better luck

Greg, I know what you mean.  I have made more than my share of designer firewood. :)  Starting something new, is always a learning experience.  I seem to learn the most from the mistakes I make.
