What's the best way to sharpen a barrel trimmer like this?

ning-000-0002-00-40403-63.jpg?width=750I now have 3 of these things, 2 are about as dull as a baby's rear including this one. I have been told that filing across the flat is the best way rather than trying to file with the angled edge itself, as I try that though (filing across the flat), it doesn't seem to be doing much of any good. I am using a Credit card size diamond file from PSI that I also use for my chisels. On the chisels it works great, but here on the barrel trimmer, not so much.

Thanks all

Hey Charles,

The way I sharpen mine is I sharpen it from the back side and let the stone follow the angle of the back side. Be sure to hold the trimmer head flat against the stone. Also only sharpen on the push stroke and count the strokes to be sure to make the same amount of strokes on all 4 edges. How this helps and does not confuse you.

I use a course grit diamond hone, then a fine grit after the course grit. Sorry that I forgot to mention the grits.
