September 24, 201114 yr I know you all thought I had missed out on getting this post up on Friday. Well I almost missed getting it posted. Â I have been on a working vacation this past week. Yep, I have been employed by my wife for the past week. We took all of the carpet up in our living/den upstairs last weekend. Started on Saturday laying new Engineered hardwood floors. If it had just been a square room no problem. We had to go into a hallway with five doors, two closets, stairs, stair rails and a landing. Could I have any more to have to work around. Â Well we took up the stair rails and I took cherry and made a hardwood bull nose for the rails to sit into. The hardwood floor is a floating floor so I need something solid to put the stair rails into. We re-did all of the stair rails and stained them to match the Brazilian Koa floor. Â In the process of taking the door casings down to fit the floor up under we decided to replace all of the doors since we already had them out. So I put in new six panel doors. That was an add on or change order. Â We are also replacing all of the windows in the house. We had to order a few of them but while resting from the floor we got started changing windows. Let me tell you, make sure someone is holding the new window when you set it in the opening. Warranty doesn't cover it. Â While all of the furniture was out, we took the LCD to the shop. It was getting this flicker in the right side that was driving me crazy. Well guess what? It is not repairable. Have to replace the TV. New one won't be in until Thursday. Oh and while she had the furniture out, we replaced it all. Yea, another change order. Â So I have been in the shop and in the house and I am ready to go back to work to get a little rest. I have two craft shows coming up next weekend and I have some items that must get finished. Â So what are you working on? What is on your woodworking agenda? September 24, 201114 yr Man John, you made me tired just reading about your week. As for me, I'm finishing up 4 keepsake boxes and a flag case. Then it is off to Fairmount, Indiana the birthplace of James Dean. Each year Fairmount and its sister city about 3 miles away have a street rod festival. One is James Dean Days and the other is the Ducktail Run (from the 50's haircut) and street rodders from around the country come in. They usually have about 4 to 5 thousand street rods in the area. That's where I'll be. Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
September 24, 201114 yr Ron I am almost jealous. I love street rods and muscle cars.As for my week end. I have the one year birthday party Saturday for my great nephew and Sunday my church is have a huge outdoor service and festival. As for this week, I shipped the bookcase for the lawyer. I got more of the trophies done and shipped. So hopefully Monday back to normal around here. Meaning some time to clean my shop up. It's not dirty and dusty, just have lots of cut offs laying around and need to finish smoothing and sharpening my jack plane and Chisels. Oh yea clean up and sharpen the mortising bits and chisels. Hope everyone had a great week end and makes tons of saw dust if it's in your cards.  Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
September 24, 201114 yr Very nice charles. Looks great. When I have inclusions I will sometimes fill it with Turquose powder then CA. Another good filler is embosing powder which you can get at Michaels in lots of colors, even mother of pearl. It's very inexpensive and realy makes the pen stand out. Just pack the hole with the powder and apply CA, allow to fully cure and the turn and sand.
