September 30, 201114 yr   Earlier this month I posted some pics of the beginning of my router table cabinet and here are some more. I got the face frame cut out and attached, painted the inside "Machinery Grey" and put on 4 coats of General Finishes oil & urethane. Drilled the hole and attached a 4" dust port then mounted and attached the Incra top, router plate and Wonder Fence. The top was mounted with weather striping between it and the cabinet then attached with screws through the triangle brackets tight enough to just compress the weather striping just a touch which will seal the router compartment. Now that that's all completed I'll use the setup to build the door and drawers. I also have an external safety switch I bought from Rockler which will be mounted tomorrow.    The cabinet is built from 3/4" maple plywood and the face frame is poplar. I'll build the drawer fronts and door frame from poplar as well and the door will have a piece of 1/4 lexan drilled for airflow for maximum dust extraction. Thanks for viewing and look forward to your comments and suggestions.
October 1, 201114 yr MikeVery nice indeed. She looks like she will be around quite a while. I like the incra system on top too. Really looking forward to the finished project. Wayne MahlerGod bless and protect our troops that serve so we can be free.
October 1, 201114 yr Mike that is a great looking router table. I like what you have done. Are you putting a life on the router? John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
October 1, 201114 yr Author Thanks Wayne and John! No lift needed, the Triton has a built in lift which is one of the big reasons I bought it. About a week ago Woodcraft had the 1 1/4 hp Triton for $99.00 and I couldn't pass it up. It's a nice handheld and it also has it's own lift. Now I just have to lay out all my router and Incra do dads and custome make the drawers for it all to fit with room to spare I hope. I'll post pics when it completed.
October 2, 201114 yr Author Thanks! The bottom will have 2 large drawers. The bottom drawer being the deeper drawer for another router, edge guides and home built jigs. The upper wide drawer will be used for the Incra wonderfence and attaching hardware all shadowed in closed cell foam to keep things from rattling around.
October 10, 201114 yr Author Well this weekend was great for working in the shop. I got the switch mounted, the door built and then my Wife & I built the INCRA Template storage system. It's made with 3/8" thick cutting board material I bought at TAP plastics. There are 2 layers with a polycarbonate top to hold the templates in on the top. There are 52 slots cut 17/32" with 1/8" space between slots and then screwed to hard wood strips to stiffen the assembly and establish the assembly at an angle when it's attached in the top drawer, which will be the next item on the agenda. The switch is installed so that the coards penetrate the cabinet through rubber grommets, 1 cord to the router and the other is the power cord which exits out the back so it's not under foot when using the router. The power coard is suspended along the inner wall with stand-offs providing a good gap so dust doesn't build up on top of the cord. I dissassembled the switch so I could rout the cords into the cabinet without drilling a big ugly hole to push the plugs through. Ihanks for viewing.
October 10, 201114 yr Mike it is looking good. Nice attention to all of the details. I like the things you did to the switch. That is good thought in that. Looking forward to seeing it finished up. John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
October 10, 201114 yr Man o man o man, very nice!!! I love the massive table top and the fence design. Excellent job! John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
October 10, 201114 yr Author Arlin that would be a nice option but on my router I can easly reach the speed control on the router. You may have a defective switch or the switch on your router is defective. Is there a breaker built into your external switch?  I hate to ask an obvious or insulting question but is the switch on the router engaged?
October 17, 201114 yr Author Well I built and installed the drawers this weekend. The only thing left will be to make the drawer fronts and install the drawer pulls. All of the drawers are on full extension ball bearing glides. They really make a difference. It's late now so I don't have any pictures but will take some and post them tomorrow. Thanks for looking.
October 17, 201114 yr Author Drawers built and installed and everything fits with plenty of storage space for the future. I plan on lining the drawers with closed cell foam that we use for shadowing tool boxes. I screwed up or should I say i made a design change when I was dadoing the drawer front and backs for the plywood bottoms I was too quick and dadoed the wrong side so no I have an "expansion joint"  but it'll be covered up with the drawer faces which is next on the agenda.
October 19, 201114 yr Nice Mike!!!!!! Make sure you create a photo album of this in your photos page. That table turned out really well Mike, you should be very proud, and it will serve you for years to come. Â John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
October 19, 201114 yr Very nice design and build on the router table. That should be a very nice addition in the shop and should serve you well for a long time to come. Â Hummm, I thought I was the only one with dado's on the wrong side of a board. Â John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
October 19, 201114 yr Author Thanks John & John. I'm really pleased with the results. It's a long way from the first router table I built 35 years ago and I've learned a lot along the way. Once I've finished the drawer fronts I'll post the results.
October 21, 201114 yr I can only say, I wish I had one like that!Mike Dillen said:Thanks John & John. I'm really pleased with the results. October 23, 201114 yr Author Well it's finally finished! Here's the completed product with the drawer fronts finished with 3 coats of General oil & urethane, attached with the drawer pulls. I wanted to go with the long pulls on the bottom drawers due to their widths but I almost didn't because Home Depot wanted $27.00 each. I found them at Lowes for $10.25 each which saved the day because I think they look more to scale. The template storage is installed and the router compartment is secure with Velcro straps for cord management. Thanks for following this project and look forward to your comments and criticisms!
