October 1, 201114 yr Hi all,  Do any of you post small ads on Facebook (on your wall) or Twitter? If so, does it do you any good?  I just wonder if I am wasting my time with doing this or if it actually does work, I have heard from some acquaintances that they do have luck but really start backing away when i ask anything about HOW.  Since I am rather stuck where I'm at, I really don't have any way of getting to craft shows etc., So really the internet is all I have to get the word out.  Thanks for your time and any ideas you wish to share   Charles
October 1, 201114 yr I've been thinking about it. Maybe someone will see something that they would want.My wife just made me a page so when we have some extra time might post some pics and see what happens.  Harry BrinkBulldog WoodworkingMontana
October 2, 201114 yr It only works if you have folks that visit your page. People don't just happen on to your page, they have to be invited, or you need to be a presence on FB so others are interacting with you. In a nutshell, Facebook is a good "In addition" to your typical means of advertising your wares. It cannot be used as the only means to advertise your goods. There are quite a few free website developing tools out there. One for example is YOLA. The basic site which is plenty good to get you started with your own e-commerce site to sell your goods is completely free. Building your site is pretty dang easy with them as well.  John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
October 2, 201114 yr Greetings John  I did put some photos of our club shows, and I had few enquiries of the pieces if they were for sale. Blokes who own the pieces were suprised when I passed the info to them. They know nothing about Facebook. They know how to write basic emails and that's it. So Facebook might work when you wanna pass photos/info of you work around. My sister is into taking photos, she got her own Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Katriina-Kilpi-Photography/52771851459 and internet page, she gets work from both by just people looking what she does. Give it a go, nothing to loose  .  Jari  Keep on turning, if not today, do it tomorrow.
October 3, 201114 yr Charles, what is the link to your Yola Page, and what is the link to your Etsy page.Charles Nicholls said: Hi all thanks for replying, of course if I want to be notified of such replies i have to click the follow button lol, forgot to do that so i never was notified when anyone replied.  I have a Facebook page and a twitter account as well, I Have 40+ friends on FB and can't get a single one of them to click that like button.  I tell them that this is my way of making money to help pay my bills etc, so even if they did not personally like what they see, that they should hit the share button or at least the like button, so that their friends that MIGHT like what they see may bid or buy it. But I don't get a single like or share from any of it. Yet of course they are all the time posting links of their own that they want shared or liked so that my friends will see it.  I don't know, maybe i just need to find some new FB friends.  Twitter, I actually did get one person to respond once to say that they liked what they saw, other than that, its been nothing but search engines crawling the links, That in itself may help at some point but I just don't see any real results from it right now.  So in short I'm at a loss for what i should do since I cant actually pay for advertising, heck it's not even a real business yet, but hopefully at some point it will get there I do have a page on Etsy but that gets hits next to never, and I also have a Yola page which is connected to my Etsy listings.  Anyway Thanks for listening  Charles  John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
October 3, 201114 yr While I look at your site Charles, I did notice there is no way to post a message on your FB wall. You might want to toggle that to allow messages on your wall if you want interaction. John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
October 3, 201114 yr Woops, sorry Charles, I just realized you and I were not connected, so I could not post on your wall, that is fixed now as you know. Disregard my statement.Charles Nicholls said:I don't understand what you mean, I have always got replies to my wall when someone actually posts to it. How do i turn that back on if its off? i am so tired of FB screwing with things.  Charles John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
October 4, 201114 yr Ya need a link to your page in your profile or here. I think I found your regular page. No business page though. To create one of them scroll to the bottom of your FB page and click create page. Start a business page. I made one up a while back but recently started playing around with it. I'm up to 99 fans right now.  Try to add something new a couple times a week, post what is currently happening in your shop or add a new album. Or post single pix of what your working on. In the last 2 months I have been doing this and I picked up a couple new clients. It does work. If you try the face book ads, I'd wait until you have something for visitors to see. Two or three pictures and just a few posts about what is happening will not produce a return visit or a new fan. I created 6 albums so far, mostly showing the different stages of a pieces progress. When I create a new one I share it on my regular page. My regular page friends seem to like it. When I get a few more albums made I am going to use the FB ads to direct more visits to my Biz page. Later down the road I may use it for my regular site. Let me know when you get it set up, I want to be one of the first fans.  ETA: I just sent a friend request to your FB so if you see a scott gellenthin in the requests.....that's me.Â
