WOOD WORKING QUIZ for 02 OCT 11 "a learning tool"

Featured Replies

Good Morning Friends,

After living in a home for several years and you notice the doors tend to start dragging on the floor or rub the casing when you close the door or they stick when you try to open them. What in your opinion is the cause of this happening and what can you do to fix the problem?

House is starting to settle or the wood is drying out?

You could shave the bottom of the door a little and wax the rubs.

Another thought. You could put a "floor jack" under the floor joist if that's the problem.

how about first looking at the hinges and see if thats the problem, adjust/shim them in necessary to get the right reveals around the door, if this doesnt work then look to other bigger problems, Paul

Harry's got the solution.

Good Morning Fellows,

Harry, indeed does have the answer for the wall covering at the same location and the top corner of the wall at the door opening will also have a crack whether it is drywall or plaster. This is a good indicator that the house is settling and a need for it to be jacked up and supported under the location.

Thanks to one and all for your support.
