When building outdoor projects they should be protected from the elements in some form or fashion.

What do you normally use for this protection?

Use weather resistant wood and an oil finish.  But be prepared to re-coat every couple of years..

Usually, two coat of an oil-based PRIMER, then whatever finish one wants.  Outdoor benches would get a roof-like structure over them.

Good Morning Fellows,

Larry, has mentioned that using the wood that is resistant to the elements however I have used Thompson Water sealer but now use a product with cedar oil that drives all water out of the wood and never allows any to get back into the wood for it penetrates all the way through and lasts a life time and never needs a refreshing coat of stain or varnish.
