Mike Dillen Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I looking to buy a portable air compressor. I already have a 20 gal oilless air compressor but it's not convenient to set up and use what little bit I need it for, so I thought about a smaller solution. The only thing I use it for is a brad nailer, and will be using it with a 3 gal paint pressure pot for casting pen blanks which only require 50 to 60 psi for casting and once the pot is pressurized I'll close a valve and shut off the compressor. The ones I've seen have 2.5 cfm at 150 psi. Is that enough CFM?  I'm looking for recommendations from you folks that have the smaller compressors.
Guest Larry Jenkins1409946522 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 You already have an air compressor. Now go buy one of the larger portable air tanks. Fill it with your larger, permanent air compressor. The larger tank will give you enough air to drive many nails. You can also attach an air brush to the portable. If you want, I'll post an image of mine.LarryÂ
John Morris Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Mike, I bought this Husky Air Compressor as a little side kick as you are talking about, man it is quiet, has plenty of CFM to push material for finishing small projects like your talking about and it is at a good price, I bought mine for 100 bucks, it's a great little unit, you'll like it for your purpose. John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
Mike Dillen Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 Thanks Lary, I didn't mention above (sorry) that I also would like to get away from the noise that my oilless compressor puts out otherwise that would be a good solution. Thanks John, I saw that one at Homedepot the other day and it's now down to under $60.00 and I'll put it on my list due to it's quiet operation. I am a little concerned about it's reliability based on some of the reviews but the price that it's at now may be worth taking a chance. Thanks Darcy, I'm also considering the Makita 2400 as well, it's got great reviews and is super quiet which I like plus It puts out enough CFM which would allow vacuming pen blanks to stabilize them and that would be a bonus in the future. Thanks all for your input, it helps a great deal to get your opinions and ideas.Â
