Weekend Accomplisments

Featured Replies

How about some pictures of what you guys/gals got done this weekend.

I'm finishing up my kitchen/living room remodel. So this weekend I made the door and window trim. I like a simple flat trim 2 1/2 wide with a 1/4" radius on the edges. I also like to make my trim up as a frame and nail them on in one piece as opposed to the standard one piece at a time. These frame are 45d and put together with dominions.  Anyone else do it this way?

BTW these are paint grade.

Sad to say, but I have not made any, but I do like your design. I am stuck in the BORG for my trim and put it up one piece at a time.

Not to distract from the post, but hows the weather?

That's pretty slick Rich, I must admit, I have always pieced my trim together at the window or door. But if you built the windows and doors, then you know they are square! In my case, doing onsite work, nothing was square.

I worked on clearing out our Pumpkin Patch this weekend and getting my kids swing set back to working condition.

On a side note, the Pumpkin Patch won! We got only two pumpkins this year. And a whole lot of vines.

Glad your wrapping up your project Rich, great work.

I got my wife's Recipe Book Holder done. Okay so for many of you that does not mean much, but for a full-time Shipfitter, and a full-time farmer, along with being a Dad and church stuff, ANY woodworking accomplishment is an accomplishment indeed!

I got the finish all put on it, then I got the lead hold downs down. I did some drilling and slight modifications and the silly thing works, and works well. For food safety sake, I did cover the Lead hold downs with a few coats of polyurethane so that the Lead would never come in contact with any food in the kitchen, (or the kids would come into direct contact with it).

DarkMaplebowl10.25inchesindiameter.jpgHad many obligations to attend to this weekend - wedding on Saturday, and a family dinner on Sunday but still managed to create this bowl over the weekend.  Cut it out and glued it up on Friday night.  Turned it on Saturday morning.  Finished it on Sunday after the family dinner.  :)  Might be hard to see, but there is a bead around the outside top edge of the bowl.  :)

Bowl is 10 1/4 inches in diameter and made from a dark maple wood.  Finish is USP grade mineral oil and beeswax.

Also cut out a platter and have it ready to go on the lathe.  This platter will be my first turned platter.  Can't wait to see how it will turn out.

As usual, there was not enough shop time this weekend.  :)  Hoping this coming weekend has more wood chips flying.  Grin.gif

It it can't be fixed with glue and sawdust - it's not worth fixing.

SQ, that is just amazing, clean, great color and gorgeous. I know you guys are getting sick if hearing me say this, but dang, I gotta get me a lathe!

John, thanks so much for the kind words.  I can't imagine finishing a bowl on a tilting spindle sander, like I use to do. That was really hard work and the results were unpredictable.  If you get into turning, you will love it.  I'm hooked!  I just wish I had longer days, so I could do more of it.
