WOODWORKING QUIZ for 10 OCT 11 "a learning tool"

Good Morning Friends,

What method should one use when cross cutting plywood that is stacked on a pair of horses?

I generally use a piece of 1.5" thick insulating foam under the ply.

Sometimes, I'll use a couple 2Xs spanning the horses.

Rlaph, I have a couple straight edge clamp on jigs I use, it has a built in chip shield to prevent chip out from the blades up cut. I don't worry too much about the underside as the blades rotation is going in at the bottom. For support, if I have several sheets to cut, I'll stack the sheets up on the horses, and just use a scrap piece to keep the ply I am cutting off the sheets below. If I have only one sheet to cut, I'll usually have some longer pieces I can use as stretchers to go across the horses to support the sheet.

I use 2Xs clamped underneth with a skill saw and a shop built guide made from 1/4" hardboard & a piece 3/4" X 4" X 5' plywood glued and screwed together which acts as a fence.

What's a "Saw Horse?"

Guess I'm pretty fortunate to have the room, and the saw capability.

When I used to use them, I always positioned the plywood to just "hang over" one of the horses..

Nice set up Larry!

Same set up I got Mike. Great for onsite work when you don't have your shop with you.

Good Morning Fellows,

WOW Larry, what a set up and I noticed your planer on it's own rolling table/horse. Nothing like tools that you can move around the shop for ease of use and return them to their home spot when not in use.

It is important when cutting plywood in the manner described you want the face of the sheet down to avoid feathering or marring the face.
