October 28, 201114 yr I am chomping at the bits to get the plug end and gear box oil in the planer and send some wood through it. I am really wanting to see this thing eat some wood. I can't wait to see how good that carbide Spiral Cutterhead does. I have a couple of cutting boards that are ready to run through the planer and smooth up so I can cut them and put in the last glue up. I am also going to mount the Wooden vent hood cover tonight for a customer and hopefully work on island doors this weekend. I do have to go to a wedding this weekend. Have you ever noticed that people get married at the worse times. Right in the middle of the day on a Saturday. I'll see how much I get to work on before and after the wedding. I also have a birthday party for my granddaughter. So I guess I will have to see what I get done. How about you, what are you working on this weekend? John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
October 28, 201114 yr I tried to give Moody an out for tomorrow. I'm going to a huge auction tomorrow of a defunct furniture factory. There's about 2500 bf of oak, beech, cherry and walnut. I invited Mr. Moody but his wedding was more important.  Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
October 28, 201114 yr Bread and dipping oil trays for Christmas presents. I'm stumped on how to hold/redrill a plastic "standoff".
October 28, 201114 yr I have been working on making some more of the children's rocking chairs and got two 5'x5' sheets of 1/2" baltic birch plywood that I laid out with the templates. I can get 2 full chairs plus an extra seat and back along with some extra front cross pieces and locking keys to minimize waste. I use a "Sharpy" marker and then cut right up to the outside of the line or about 1/16" outside of it so there is less material to remove on the router table. Since I don't have a band saw I have to use my jig saw for cutting the pieces which takes awhile. It takes me about 2.5 hours per sheet with a couple of brief breaks to relax my back and 2 blades to get the 21 pieces cut that I have laid out on the plywood. This is the hardest and most tedious part of the process. I had to order a few more 1/2" flush trim shear cut router bits from MLCS (these are the most economical bits for this work and only cost $12 each and they have free shipping) as mine have finally wore out. They won't be in until early next week. Saturday I will get the 2nd sheet of plywood cut up and then clean things up in the shop. Sunday we have church and then after lunch I will sit back and enjoy the NASCAR race that will be on the DVR. Â Here is the layout of the templates on the 5'x5' sheet of 1/2" baltic birch plywood Here are the 21 pieces that I cut out and are now ready to be run through the router table with a 1/2" flush trim bit and the templates. This is waste after cutting out the pieces. I could have cut up a few more of the locking keys, but I now have plenty of them to last awhile. October 29, 201114 yr I have to work most of this weekend and my weekend starts Sunday, but I have a lot of pens to turn and get my pen blank casting system up and running. With all my time dedicated to building the router table I've fallen behind on my turning.

October 29, 201114 yr Author Well I got the Wooden Vent hood installed for a customer tonight. The painter will be there tomorrow and will put a glaze on. I'll get another picture when the painter finishes the cabinets and the hood. Â They are redoing the kitchen and there was a microwave here before. It went bad and they installed a new vent and I did the vent cover. Also working on an Island for them. Hope it is finished in about a week. October 29, 201114 yr Well gang here's the spoils of the day....or at least part of it. These two pictures show about 1200 BF of maple and oak that I bought at auction today. There was a furniture company in town that went under and a buying we did go. There is one box of oak shorts (about 4ft long) that I have to pick up yet. The box is one like they ship watermelons in and it is packed full. I paid $40 for the box and there was a treasure in the bottom that I found. There was a roll of tambour oak 4' wide and about 10 ft or so long. There was more maple than I wanted so I'll be sorting all week. I think I see a slew of cutting boards on the horizon.  Did I mention that everything I bought came to $98.00? 7 skid loads and one box. Needless to say, mama's van is in the driveway, not the garage for a few days.  Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
October 30, 201114 yr Nice haul, I need to run across a deal like that. Ron Dudelston said: Well gang here's the spoils of the day....or at least part of it.
October 30, 201114 yr I started these a couple weekends ago, when my router decided to take an early retirement, and finished them today. Definitely not my best, but not my worst either. I need to make some more tomorrow, hopefully I can at least get them cut and assembled. Â Â Greghttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/
October 30, 201114 yr Greg, you can't see it but in that stack of long boards there are 3 hard maple boards that are 5/4 12 ft long and about 9 inches wide. They're clear as a bell. I also have lots of maple that are about 2 1/2" square by 2-3 ft long. Nice cutting board size Greg Aksdal said: Nice haul, I need to run across a deal like that. Ron Dudelston said: Well gang here's the spoils of the day....or at least part of it. Ron Dudelston Above and Beyond WoodWorks  Greghttp://www.thesawdustfactory.net/  Ron DudelstonAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
October 30, 201114 yr From the sounds of the rattling inside and the smell of the smoke that came from it, it's toasted, I'll take it apart later out of curiosity. I found a complete Dewalt dw618 kit in a pawn shop last week for $50 so I jumped on it. With the economy the way it is now is a good time to run across good deals on used tools. Of course they are just that - used, but it fit my budget for now. Mike Dillen said:Very nice Greg. Can your router be repaired, brushes maybe?
October 30, 201114 yr More maple than you want?  I could laminate those and make bowls, cutting boards, boxes, spatulas, wooden spoons, to name just a few.  I am drooling.  lol  SQRon Dudelston said: Well gang here's the spoils of the day....or at least part of it.
