316 JA Fay & Egan 16" jointer

I forgot that I picked this up a couple weeks ago.  I sold my 8" Oliver 144 and upgraded to this 16" beast.

I think the upgrade only cost me 100 bucks too.

That is my 2 year old in the picture.

Darcy,

Between the auction, and this you've got some nice machines, looks like you got bit hard by the owwm bug. Don't worry it's not terminal, just contagious. I look forward to your upcoming restoration articles.

The 316 is about done.  All it needed was a good cleaning, the guard repaired and a paint job.

The guard repair is free, my buddy has a fab shop and he owed me a favor.

I guess I should count in the 20 bucks worth of paint too.

It does need the brake arm fixed but, I will get to that some time.

She sure is a sweet machine.

Nice looking machine there.  Will you be restoring it or just putting it to work to earn its keep?

And a cute young lady there too!

After a clean down and fresh coat of paint, it is right to work.  I actually had to use it while I was cleaning and re-painting.

Darcy,

I own two of these. They're great machines. I know you've been told that they're tippy as all hockey sticks. My 12" will fall over just looking at it. The 16" is a bit better. They can be a little challenging to set and level (not as easy as a three toe). I set mine in grout once I got it leveled. The 8' tables are very nice. All in all a great litle jointer.

I was scared silly by a few people about how tippy it was.  After loading and unloading it, I did not find it to be very tippy at all.  Maybe I was fortunate.

I have an updated picture of my progress so far, on my other computer.

Thanks Jack, that means a lot coming from you.  One day I hope to be able to get them to look as nice as you get them to look.  I can't wait to get my American USB, Yates M60 and the 316 all lined up in the shop and running.  They will make quite the trio.
