October 30, 201114 yr Good Morning Friends,It used to be that come this time of the year construction would halt till spring however now it continues all through the winter months with no stoppage other than laying of asphalt in the parking lots. How is it possible to continue through out the winter months?
October 30, 201114 yr  We used to START foundations in the November/December time of year.    They make blankets to cover new concrete, and footers.    I used a lot of layers on me.   "Weed-burners" to clear the snow off.   The only time we didn't work was when the windchill got too low.  Rebar tends to stick to skin when it gets too cold.    We would work in the snow, but not the rain. Long time ago, a carpenter would work on houses until it got too cold, then he would become a furniture maker until the spring thaw.  Build a house in the summer/fall, and furnish it during the winter. 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
October 31, 201114 yr Author Good Morning Steve,How right you are for there are some things and times when we just kept right on working even though we may not have liked it. Now today it is nothing to see winter protection by means of covering the buildings with large panels of 2 x material covered with plastic to help hold the warm air in as we worked. There have been times when a work schedule would be missed due to having to install the panels and if they were not planned in the bid a company could loose a great deal of money or even go broke for not planning the cost of the project of keeping the work place warm enough to work. Thanks for your support.
